I a just starting out on the Total Recall journey with 4 year old springer who is very easily distracted and also very nervous – but also an absconded when out. I’ve tried in the past most of the exercises with a whistle in the book – to very variable success. Now need to have a new ‘non poisoned’ recall and was wondering whether a silent whistle would be suitable? Knowing how and when to reward your dog is critical. Poorly used, rewards can become a bribe. And you can end up with a dog that ignores you unless you are holding out a hot dog. It's hard to understand why successful authors are still pushing outdated, unpleasant methods successfully when books like this are out there.
