I a just starting out on the Total Recall journey with 4 year old springer who is very easily distracted and also very nervous – but also an absconded when out. I’ve tried in the past most of the exercises with a whistle in the book – to very variable success. Now need to have a new ‘non poisoned’ recall and was wondering whether a silent whistle would be suitable? Knowing how and when to reward your dog is critical. Poorly used, rewards can become a bribe. And you can end up with a dog that ignores you unless you are holding out a hot dog. That way the puppy will learn to always respond to a single command and you will never need to repeat it. More information Dog recall is a final safety net. A way to get your dog instantly out of dangerous situations, from cliff edges to road sides and even out of the clutches of potential dognappers! We are not talking about the physical size of the reward here, you don’t need to carry a 10lb bag of treats around with you. We are talking about big value. Specifically what is valuable to your dog. It's hard to understand why successful authors are still pushing outdated, unpleasant methods successfully when books like this are out there.
