Eren Jaeger - Mikasa considers Eren to be her "family," since she was taken into his home following the death of her parents. She always wears a scarf, given to her by Eren, as a token of the moment when he first wrapped it around her in an attempt to comfort her when she had first lost all hope. From the time he saved her life and accepted her into his home, Eren has been a great source of strength and comfort for her, and when she had thought him dead, she very nearly allowed herself to die as well, but kept living on to remember him. She became distraught when learning Eren had been abducted, wrapping the scarf over her face to hide her sadness. Eren tells her that these tents are where these people live after losing their homes to war. The people here are like the two of them. One day life stopped being normal and everything was taken away. The following day, Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and others travel to the training camp to talk with Keith. They talk inside a small house and Keith tells them everything he knows: how he met Grisha 20 years ago outside the Walls, his relationship with him and Eren's mother during those years, and how he was present in the night Grisha injected Eren with the Titan serum but did not see anything, and at the end, does not know anything about Grisha's secrets. After somewhat recuperating, Annie easily escapes her confinement from within the basement and conceals herself in an adjacent room. When Hitch enters the room, Annie attempts to take the girl hostage but is easily beaten in her weakened state. Annie is considered to be an isolated, exclusionary type; friendships do not come to her easily. She is rarely seen smiling and often has an emotionless expression. She is apathetic and somnolent, with little desire to put in any effort into meaningless disciplines or activities, and instead focuses exclusively on making it into the Military Police Regiment to obtain an easy life. This had proven to be useful in battle as shown when Annie chose to regenerate only one eye to see the approaching Special Operations Squad and to defeat them, using the moment of surprise. [29]
During the battle, Jean's ODM gear breaks, leaving him stranded in the middle of the district. With Marco joining in, Annie and Conny work to keep all nearby Titans distracted while Jean attempts to find a replacement set of gear. He is eventually able to, and all four cadets retreat to the top of the wall, where they watch as Eren seals the breach in Wall Rose. Annie lies drenched and limp, surrounded by the broken crystal fragments. For the first time in four years, Annie's eyes open and her body begins coughing up liquid. Hange reveals that they do not have enough time to save Liberio, and Annie, overwhelmed, decides to leave the group, as she now has no reason to fight and states she is getting off. One year after retaking Shiganshina, Mikasa goes with the other members of the Scouts to intercept a survey ship sent from Marley. Like the others present, Mikasa is surprised to see two sailors rebel and force the others to surrender. While watching the two meet with Levi and Hange, Mikasa ponders what their plan might be while trying to wake up Sasha. As they draw near to Eren, Mikasa experiences another strong headache and is suddenly brought into a Paths place by Eren. Mikasa is living in isolation with Eren following their decision to run away from the Paradis-Marleyan conflict. Eren notices that Mikasa has been crying, and Mikasa wonders if it is okay for her to be there. Eren muses that the only option they had was to run away and live out the rest of his four years in peace together, since he could not bring himself to allow Historia to suffer or to Rumble the people living outside the Walls. Grisha Jaeger - Though he initially hoped Mikasa would get along with Eren as a friend, in the end Grisha took in Mikasa after the brutal murder of her parents. [10] He treated her kindly as if she were his own daughter, and for that Mikasa respected and gratefully relied on him as a father figure. [44]When Conny mentions they should be prepared to kill Eren if he sides with their enemy, Mikasa opposes him but he glares at her and asks if she would side with the enemy too. Mikasa says no, but claims that Eren still cares for them and tries to convince them his recent behavior is reflective of that. The others do not believe her and Jean brings up the fact that despite this, Eren still had no problem forcing them to fight and that resulted in Sasha's death. As the fight on the rooftop ensues, Mikasa and the other prisoners wonder what the sound overhead them was about. Onyankopon arrives shortly to release them, requesting that all imprisoned soldiers join the fight against Marley to keep Eren safe. [70] While Annie is trapped inside the crystal, one of the Scout Regiment members, Jean, tries to break the crystal to extract her, but Levi stops him, telling him that it is no use. Shortly afterwards, both the Military Police Brigade and the rest of the Scout Regiment take her underground and detain her.
