When trying to come to an overall assessment of these chips' relative performance, it's better to look at the measurable performance gains between chips across different tests.The emergence of Zen 4-based desktop CPUs late last year paved the way for X3D models to follow soon after. You won’t be able to split the first dozen processors when playing this game, but it sure feels good knowing you have the best CPU for the job. One of these CCXs is a standard Zen 4 CCX that’s no different than you’d find on any other Zen 4 processor, whereas the other CCX, uniquely, contains the added cache. What is questionable, however, and what has been questioned since the beginning, is how much cache is enough. To be clear (and contrary to our earlier theorizing that we mentioned in the Editors' Note up top), the Ryzen 9 7950X3D's IGP doesn't have access to the L3 cache on the processors, but just like the 3D V-Cache can help gaming performance with a graphics card, it can help the IGP perform better in the right scenarios, too.Out of all of our CPUs tests, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is beaten by the Ryzen 9 7950X in all of them except one. The 16-core processor that can do it all with incredible performance from AMD for the most demanding gamers and creators. Though AMD has put significant work into overcoming the negative effects of 3D V-Cache, it’s important to note that it still hasn’t overcome all of them—nor is it likely that the company ever will.
