In addition, the iO series brush heads have an angled base. This means that you cannot take the brush head off and stand it upright, as you can with every other brush head we tested. Instead, you have to store them in the special stand that you get with the brush. This is a nice accessory, but why they angled the base of the brush heads makes no sense to us. It seems like a purely aesthetic feature that has no practical application. If bathroom visuals are important to you, maybe the magnetic stand is worth paying for. Otherwise, you can get by just fine with the cheaper stand. The newly designed motor in the iO Series handles does change the brushing sensation, even if the way in which the bristles move is essentially the same.
After having tested other Oral-B brushes, we were excited to see how different the iO would be. Oral-B claims that this has a revolutionary motor with micro vibrations. The Series 7 comes with a magnetic charger that recharges the battery in 3 hours, compared to the standard Oral-B charger supplied with the Series 6 which takes up to 12 hours. Hardwired into it is a 2 pin UK power adapter (suitable for UK bathrooms). The cord is about 1.2 metres in length. The stand supports 100-240 volts, unlike the 220-240 volts of the standard charger. This is better for you if you travel internationally regularly. The brush is light and easy to hold, however, the brush head is noticeably larger than the standard brush heads and cut at an angle, so it does not stand up on its own.The iO9 has a power adapter hardwired into the charging stand and a separate, detachable, adapter for the power2go case. The iO10 has just 1 detachable adapter for both the charging stand and power2go case. While this is not a touch screen, so it isn’t as useful as the one built into the Oclean X Pro that we tested, this screen does offer some nice features. The main function of the display is to see and select your different cleaning modes. Given it shows an icon and a text label, this is much more user friendly than the icons only, or no icons of other Oral-B brushes.Not only are there just two options, but they are extremely expensive. Right now, you can get 2 brush heads for about 30 pounds. At around 10 pounds apiece, these are by far the most expensive brush heads that we have tested. This means that in a normal year, you will buy four brush heads spending 40 pounds a year just to continue using this already high-priced brush. With those 40 pounds, you could buy a decent electric toothbrush. When using the app, the built-in 30-second pacing alerts are turned off. This is partly because the app has an on-screen timer you can follow instead. The Series 9 comes with a power2go charging case that allows the iO to be charged inside whereas the Series 7 comes with a standard travel case. Depending on the model you go for, you have the choice between 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 brushing modes. 7 is the maximum number of cleaning modes available on any Oral-B brush.

These things exist at price points that should include all of the colors Oral-B has being available for each of their models. She’d enjoy and love a violet iO8, but it’s the rose of the iO9 that will get a sparkle going in her eye. All are claimed to last 2 weeks on a single charge. The Series 9 has 7 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whitening, gum care & tongue clean) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whitening & gum care). The extra modes the iO9 has are super sensitive and tongue clean. Of all the incredible features the iO7 has built in, there are only a few our dental professionals feel are essential.
