About this deal

There is a decent feeling of contrast to be found in the height and width range on the soundstage of the HD 400S. It offers a powerful abstract center which provides good contrast for instruments spread out wide. You may experience a depth and extra tallness to the height with the sub energy present within your chest completing the contrast in the clearer and lighter regions of the high frequencies. You will find that the high mid boost makes the sense of depth feel a little crooked but often noticeable depending on how the mix utilized soundstage. Final Thoughts on Sennheiser HD 400S Although the earpads seem too small for over-ears, they are very ergonomic and manage to be very comfortable for hours with a mixture of lay-on (in front of the ear) and ear wrap (behind the ear). In addition, they have a robust design with enough twist room for the ear cups and adequate padding, although the headband is somewhat uncomfortable. The audio cable is removable, but unfortunately the connector is not compatible with external cables. The cable also has a remote and measures 140cm. The bass is somewhat isolated from the rest of the signature and is really good in itself. Powerful with emphasis in the subrange, without exaggerating it. For driving beats or hip-hop a fun affair and quite detailed. But the mids are the deal breaker on the H400s. These are very unbalanced and especially voices are sometimes hard to bear as they can get very shrill. In general the H400S is too bright and tonally inconsistent. The trebles also don't have a big extension and sometimes sound a bit tinny.

The soundstage of the Sennheiser HD400S had a nice feeling of contrast in the height and width domains. It had a strong phantom center, which contrasted well with instruments panned out wide. Additionally, the height felt tall and deep with the sub energy in my chest complimenting the difference in the brighter, airer parts of the high frequencies. The sense of depth was skewed a bit due to the high mid boost, but came through depending on how it the mix used soundstage. Sennheiser has done it again. The HD 400S performs well beyond its price range and is one of the better budget model headphones I’ve tried. It has very few bells and whistles and offers a simple means of listening that still delivers amazing clarity and quality. If you need a good first pair of headphones or need something that you can take out of the house, then the HD 400S is definitely for you. The Sennheiser HD 400s headphone is a wired headphone with a supraaural ear coupling. It does not feature a noise-canceling microphone. The maximum sound pressure level of 120 dB makes it perfect for listening to music, watching movies, and playing games without any distortion. Constructed with premium materials, it guarantees long-term durability and reliability. Featuring a one-button smart remote on the cable, the HD400S lets you take control of your music and calls. Play, pause and skip your music and accept or drop calls – all at the touch of a button. Tapped twice, you can also call on Siri or Google Assistant for voice guidance instructions. Think wired budget-friendly over-ears with an in-line remote incorporated to help you take hands-free phone calls and control your music time; the only image you should have is that of the Sennheiser HD 400S! These headphones succeeded the Sennheiser HD 4.20 so you already know the HD 400S offers excellent build quality, provides great comfort around the head, and fits your budget so you don’t have to break the bank to acquire them.Large items (delivered by two people, such as appliances and furniture) can be returned using our Home Collection service. There is a sub boost noticeable around the 30 Hz mark on the low frequencies of the Sennheiser HD 400S. This adds extra energy to every song that uses sub frequencies as a means for whipping up emotional impact. It achieves a perfect balance by boosting the lows without covering the low-mids in a shroud. With an inline mic and remote, the Sennheiser HD400S headphones are the perfect on-ear headphone match for your smartphone or tablet.

For example, when I was listening to the song Didn’t Cha Know by Erykah Badu, the high-hat had emphasis, but felt less chunky than usual. It was emphasized more toward the upper treble and octave. Additionally, the hand drum had a slightly different shape than usual, but maintained a good balance in the mix. Lastly, Erykah’s vocal had nice detail and had good audible air during the “oo”s and “hey”s. Soundstage MattAndKimMusic.com was founded on 14 September 2020 by the Jhonson Brothers – Matt and Kim. Placing the headphones on my head, they have a comfortable yet secure clamping force. Additionally, on the underside of the headband is a thin piece of padding. This padding is coated in a soft rubber or silicone material. As a result, the headphones stay fixed in place. Earcups With their large ear pads, the HD400S’s fit around your ears rather than simply sitting on top of them. This and the padded headband make them comfortable for longer listening sessions. For their size, they’re also surprisingly light. The low frequencies of the Sennheiser HD400S has a sub boost around what sounds like 30 Hz. As a result, it gives lots of wonderful energy to songs that utilize sub frequencies as methods of creating emotional impact. It does a great job of making the lows sound big without getting in the way or clouding up the low-mids.

You can't speak of naturalness or authenticity with the HD400S and it definitely can't be described as an all-rounder. Stage and imaging are average here. The high frequencies of the Sennheiser HD400S have emphasis in various places across the lower treble, upper treble, and upper octave. However, it also has a cut around what sounds like 9 kHz. As a result, the highs have a unique shape that is able to give detail to high frequency instruments while avoiding sibilance. The H400S is a headphone for mobile use, which can be used on a cell phone (18 Ohm, 120 dB) without any problems. It has good isolation, but the sound is too inconsistent and rarely works musically. The middle frequencies of the Sennheiser HD400S have a little bit of a low mid boost around what sounds like 300 Hz. As a result, bass guitars, pianos, electric guitars, and strings have a nice base. However, I wouldn’t describe this feeling as a feeling of body. On the contrary, a cut around 1 kHz followed by a boost in the high mids gives these headphones a little bit of a smiley face curve in the midrange. As a result, it doesn’t feel cloudy at all, but it skews the levels of midrange instruments in the mix. Because of the high mid boost, vocals tend to sit a bit louder in the mix. There is an emphasis found at different points across the upper octave, upper treble, and lower treble which are brought on by the high frequencies of the Sennheiser HD 400S. A cut is also noticeable around 9 kHz which gives the highs a special shape able to offer detail to high-frequency instruments while keeping sibilance away.
