About this deal

It's an interesting one to home in on, because it sounds as though the old 1801 porter is what eventually became FES. The SUABP blog post Pinto posted above mentions that, "Foreign Extra Stout was also known as Foreign Export Double Stout and West Indies Porter at different dates." Nigeria is the brewery’s second largest sales market in the entire world, and Guinness has fourteen breweries on the continent of Africa alone.

In Ireland, on the other hand, where there is no three-tier system, Guinness can be directly involved, helping bars with the maintenance, construction, cleaning, temperature adjustments, and all the things that would affect the beer. The company was always on the quest for the elusive perfectly poured pint, which was actually part of the reason why they would sometimes make changes to their brewing methods. Pouring Guinness had always been difficult; Until the late 1950s, bartenders would dispense from two casks, one over the bar and one beneath. A proper pint depended on the skill of the pourer as well as the volume and temperature of the casks. A project to make pouring easier was envisioned by the same manager responsible for the Guinness Book of Records. The team assigned to the task discovered that a mix of carbon dioxide and nitrogen lead to a creamy and consistent head on a beer that actually now tasted better.Medium sweetness with notes of roasted chocolate or coffee. Little hoppy aromas with medium to high fruitiness. Subtle notes of alcohol. Minimal diactyl.

Because Tropical stout is basically a suped-up sweet stout, having more of an alcohol presence it works really well with more intense chocolate desserts. Try a molten chocolate cake or something fruity like a strawberry tart. Serving & Storage:
