Defrosting Ice Queen: After the betrayal she suffered, she has drawn a line she won't cross when it comes to trusting people. She complains Dean is making her to want to trust him with everything. Anchored Ship: The only serious ship in the series is Dean and Iris, but progress is very slow because of issues on both their parts: Heir Club for Men: When her elder brother, the Crown Prince, died, she became the only one who had full rights to inherit the throne. However, because it was unprecedented for a woman to take the throne, she married a Duke and had him assume the role of the King, although she still played a role in politics afterwards.Subverted with Van. She eventually begins working with him and her servants think this means forgiveness, but she's just using him as a tool and not a particularly trustworthy one at that. After all, he doesn't seem to have learned a thing or even apologized like Bern. And true enough, he turns out to be treacherous, but since she's been keeping an eye on him the whole time the plan fails miserably and he gets sentenced to death for treason. She ultimately breaks down after Alfred taunts her about being a puppet abandoned by her puppetmaster, aka Divan. The end of Volume 04 has her speaking with an imaginary lady-in-waiting - while still in prison for her crimes and likely awaiting her execution. Dude Looks Like a Lady: He has shoulder-length glossy blond hair which is rarely found even among women, long, narrow eyes and androgynous features. True Blue Femininity: It seems blue is her favorite color since she mostly wears dresses with some blue in them, blue nail polish, blue or white accessories, etc... The only exception is the white dress she wears to the church opening speech. Aloof Ally: He initially was going to refuse to help Iris because he doesn't mix friendships with business. He only changes his mind because Iris' plans are genuinely interesting and promising.

Humble Pie: Bern's character type is the talented but overconfident nobleman. When seeing that his sister's efforts put him to shame he reexamines his life and realizes he's just a wasteful young teenager. It's made even worse by how stunningly ignorant he is about his own family's operations: He didn't even know that his sister was managing the fiefdom, the Azuta Conglomerate, and the local bank system. Which she invented. Hypocrite: She hates Iris because she believes Iris views herself as entitled. Yuri on the other hand think she was entitled to steal Iris' finance and become Queen due to her hard life. Laser-Guided Karma: Near the end of Volume 4, Edward tries to assume the throne after the death of the king and massive flooding. He tries to milk the Armelia duchy for disaster relief because he hadn't prepared for it like they had and threatens war when they reach their limits of assistance. However, it's an empty threat because of the three most powerful military powers in the kingdom, the Armelia family controls one, the allied Anderson family commands and mostly makes up the second and the third is loyal to the royal family who, funny story, have Alfred as their head because he's still the crown prince, no matter how loudly Edward says he's king now. Innocently Insensitive: His senpai all but needs to spell to him why Iris would be upset by his plan of winning a visit to her by defeating his bodyguards. Took a Level in Badass: While he was easily taken down a peg by his sister, mother, and Tanya, by Volume 04, he becomes capable enough to command a room full of nobles and call them out on their crap.Non-Standard Character Design: In the manga, Yuri is clearly drawn in a different style than the other characters. While most of the cast is drawn in the more serious josei style, Yuri is drawn in the shoujo style. This causes her to look subtly off because she doesn't blend in with everyone else and ends up looking creepy and artificial. Bastard Bastard: Yuri, the bastard daughter of a low ranking noble, is strongly implied to be intentionally destabilizing the kingdom. Big Brother Instinct: Inverted. He is the younger one but he is very protective of his sister after reconciling with her. Know When to Fold 'Em: Divan knows when to cut loose people who can't do him good anymore which includes Yuri herself once Edward's coup fails.

Iris is hard working, dedicated and responsible while Bern is wasteful, hot tempered and arrogant. However, Bern comes to his senses upon realizing that his academy days don't matter in the real world at all. His group's "policies" are also only for self satisfaction: They don't care about the people like Iris does. Big Brother Worship: Iris's hard work and accomplishments inspire him, to the point that he asks Alfred to name her Duke of Armelia instead of him. Lonely Rich Kid: Iris brought Tanya into the family manor because she was isolated and wanted someone to talk to. The English adaptation of the manga is licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, who is also set to bring over the light novels. The main story was completed after five volumes, but the author then decided to continue the story by writing a prequel series about Iris' mother Merellis. The Prince Edward faction and the Prince Alfred faction respectively. Prince Edward's faction is very large, encompassing a slim majority of Tasmeria's nobles. However they tend to be corrupt old money families or nobles seeking a weak and pliable ruler to manipulate.When He Smiles: He rarely ever lifts his lips, except for a sarcastic quip or sardonic laugh, but after seeing his daughter for the first time in three years and praising her work ethic in not only maintaining but improving his domain, he lets loose with the most earnest smile he can. Stealth Expert: When she wants to be unseen, she typically can be unseen. Unless she makes a point of telling Iris she's going to be gone on some errand, it's a safe assumption she's always near.
