About this deal

A chase ensues, in which the girl’s father sees all the ingenious ways she’s learned how to use the chalk. A bored and lonely child picks up a red colouring stick and draws a small door on her bedroom wall – then walks through it into a luminous forest lit with blue Chinese lanterns, golden strings of fairy lights and numerous fireflies.

Our main character (nameless), seeks refuge from her disconnected life in the adventures she creates with her red crayon. So this big drawing of a castle is just made up of one shape, after another shape, after another shape – squares, circles, domes, triangle, arches. This book has a great message about using your imagination to escape boring situation, and how two children can use imagination together. There’s not a ton of diversity in this book, and I do prefer titles that aren’t afraid to show folks from a variety of different races.

Because the story is told through the pictures, the book is suitable for different ages and abilities. Each recommendation is based on our experience of making London the world’s first National Park City, as well as collaborating with National Park City thinkers, influencers and leaders from around the world. Paint some circle backdrops, then let your magic crayons go for a walk in and around the circles you’ve created.

Children and adults will love the rich and bright illustrations that have just the right amount of detail.

He’s a trained artist, and clearly a well-trained one, but if he excels in this area it is due to his talent rather than his experience.

He was once asked what his favorite body part was and he answered, the butt cause it farts, and he laughed heartily. The absence of words in the books also encourages readers to interpret and construct their own stories, fostering critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.Or you can record descriptions of single spreads and ask children to listen before matching each description to its picture. Now the small child has grown quite fond of picture books, so together we’ve explored books that would be within her age range and those that are, perhaps, a tiny bit of a stretch.

Her opinions are her own and do not reflect those of EPL, SLJ, or any of the other acronyms you might be able to name. I really enjoyed it the first time I read this magical story and once I rated it I moved on with my life. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills.Provide multiple copies of the book in small groups so that children can see clearly, or project the pages onto a screen, and take your time to explore each image and discuss. So while Harold exists in the cold white plain pages of a book, destined to provide only one color for variety, this girl uses her one color to explore other colors and other worlds and other people and cultures. She sails into the centre of a huge castle and, from there, draws new forms of transport so that she can explore this fantastic world.
