About this deal

Alongside a growing want to try and use natural, rather than synthetic, methods to provide medicinal remedies and a general desire from a lot of us to get back to mature this book has come along at a great time. Our Hedgerow Guide aims to help you forage for British plants that are relatively common in the wild, easy to find and good to eat – and to avoid those that are inedible or poisonous. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. This is a book about plants (some very familiar, some quite rare), which you can eat, but without any illustrations it loses all its value. Its a bit tricky trying to read it while looking at my phone while walking in the countryside looking for things I want to forage, all at the same time without falling over a log. This did, however, help me to identify wild garlic in the early summer, which I foraged till I had no more room in my freezer! I was disappointed as it had no illustrations and you would have to rely on written descriptions to identify plants.

As the opportunity to use what nature has provided, and to encourage more plants in our own back gradens that can be used for a range of purposes – rather than purely to look nice – foraging has become cool! Please allow up to 10 working days for 2nd class mail to arrive, instead of the usual 3-5 days that we all used to be accustomed to. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Tell us why you liked or disliked the book; using examples and comparisons is a great way to do this. Stepping back into the wild with this book has really felt like coming home and I am so grateful to the author for enabling this adventure.

This guide is here to help keep you safe, however, please ensure that you use multiple sources for identifying plants. He has been recommended in BBC Good Food magazine, Sainsbury's magazine as well as in The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph etc. A flavour profile of each plant lets us know what taste we should expect and a nutritional profile informs us of the nutrients each plant provides. In only a few weeks this exceptional book has helped increase my knowledge of and awareness of, the wild larder that is always within our grasp. He has travelled extensively documenting and recording the traditional and local uses of wild food plants in indigenous cultures, and his work has taken him to Africa, India, SE Asia, Europe and the USA. I feel if I can get to grips with the 48 common plants discussed in this book, I'll be a step closer to being able to knowing the environment around me on my walks. The author has spent fifteen years experimenting and learning about wild plants and how our ancestors used plants to nourish and heal themselves.Instead of providing a snapshot for each plant, Harford gives a link to a database of pictures which give a more indepth photography for each plant and a better resource for identification.

Each plant description tells us which parts of the plant can be used for food as well as how to use those parts. I have enjoyed Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland, even as a reader who lives in the Southern Appalachians.
