About this deal

I missed a few shots that I know I would have captured with my Panasonic 25mm or my Olympus 45mm when I was using this lens out on the street but the street really isn’t this lens’ natural environment. An ongoing, monthly contribution to support our work can also be done through the PayPal Donate button below. Another alternative is the above-mentioned Olympus 30mm Macro, which I have used for a long time and I have very good experience with.

Yes, it is a bit pricy, but it will be something you can always fall back on if you’re feeling a bit stuck in a rut with your photography. As I mentioned earlier, my gear includes a flash and light diffuser which sticks out quite a bit around the front of the lens. To ensure 1:1 magnification is retained, you’ll need to hold the switch forward or toggle to manual focus – I’ve mapped MF/AF to a function button! The slowest handheld shutter speed that I’ve successfully shot using in-camera focus stacking is 1 second… but I’m not able to do that consistently. As much as some people would like to avoid insects, they are extremely valuable to all ecosystems and have vital roles in keeping the earth running as a machine. The switch is very useful, especially in cases where an ordinary lens would try to focus on the background instead of the small subject near the lens.

If your main focus is macro, then I couldn’t think of a better combination than micro four thirds and the Olympus 60mm to take out and about in the world. The 60mm is a macro lens with a full magnification of 1:1 (that’s the magnification I shoot at 90% of the time). Depth of field was important to me and understanding the range limitations of the depth of field what would be in focus vs the ratio being shot.and other ‘bigger’ micro 4/3 lenses like the 45-175 (which is amazingly compact for it’s focal range, but still largish compared to the smaller primes), and the 7-14 f/4, which is, again, very small for a lens of that width, but large compared to many of the other m4/3 options. Closest focus is 19cm, which allows you to get reasonably close for frame filling shots, whilst providing a reasonable working distance at the same time. This is subject to the value of the additional products not exceeding the value of the qualifying product. It also achieves beautiful circular defocusing, ideal for concentrating on the subject, no matter how small.

A number of my photographs were awarded at local and overseas competitions such as the Czech Press Photo, Nature's Best Photography, Bird Photographer of the Year, Sony World Photography Awards, Big Picture Awards, Nactus Awards or the most acclaimed one - the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Even in very high contrast situations (see above image), the 60mm is a champ and shows no visible color fringing or CA. Occasionally on the Panasonic camera used for testing, this feature will produce a warning asking you to use manual focus, but not in every instance. I only save the combined jpeg and immediately delete everything else when I start my process in post.My watch is nowhere as fancy as the previous Tissot but hey, throw in some nice creamy bokeh, a little bit of blurry reflection on the table and interesting directional light, I think it looks pretty good. It’s a Sunday morning and you abruptly awaken to the harsh: *BEEP, BEEP, BEEP* of the alarm clock going off.
