About this deal

Reproduction in whole or part in any form or medium without specific written permission is prohibited. S, which is still the lens to get if you prefer a brighter lens for events and other low-light situations. We do realise, however, that bokeh evaluation is subjective, so we've included lots of examples below for your perusal. With a lightweight build, advanced optics, and a broad zoom range, the Nikon Z 24-120 Lens makes a superb walkaround travel lens. It’s sealed to protect from dust and drips, and Nikon’s Fluorine coating on the front element repels dirt and easily wipes clean.

There, I’ve done detailed lab and field tests of the lens’s sharpness and other optical qualities, plus head-to-head comparisons against its leading competitors. Whether it was my son zipping across the local park or skateboarders doing tricks in the city, very few frames were missed in terms of focus accuracy. However, in low light and contrast sometimes you can trigger "hunts," and then the close focus ability of the lens gets in the way, as the hunt will perform a full in and out. But the lens is neither very small or light and misses optical image stabilization – which is a critical omission especially when you use the lens on a DX-body without sensor-based IS. The 24-120 is the most versatile lens I've ever used, though, and could get me by in most situations for both work and home.

As much as I like the 24-120mm f/4 S, it’s at least worth considering the other options since there are so many. As you pull focus, you’ll notice a little focus breathing: the image became 3% less magnified when I adjusted focus from infinity to 1.

With a mostly plastic construction, the Z 24-120mm f/4 S feels fairly solid in your hand, and it commendably has a metal mount.
