Former financier Daniel Szor used to spend weekends in the Cotswolds, and while contemplating a field of golden barley waving in the breeze, he was suddenly inspired. He woke up one morning looking out over a field of golden barley and wondered why no one was distilling it, the rest, as they say, is history. Our Founder’s Choice Single Malt Whisky is our first cask strength release and has been matured exclusively in our founder Dan’s favourite casks: shaved, toasted and re-charred American Oak red wine barriques. While gin is often believed to be a quintessentially English spirit, there many excellent gins made throughout the nation. He headed up to the Bruichladdich distillery in Scotland and spoke to Master Distiller Jim McEwan, who put him in touch with veteran distiller Harry Cockburn.

In charge of operations is the energetic Nickolas Franchino, archaeologist, anthropologist and former cage-fighter turned distiller. The botanicals are macerated ahead of distillation in a neutral spirit, before being put through the run, which takes six to seven hours. Juniper, coriander and angelica root are macerated in pure wheat spirit overnight to fully infuse the flavour. I don't drink a lot of gin but tried this at the distillery yesterday and loved it and bought a bottle The lavender is really evident on the nose and it has an excellent flavour either neat or mixed with the uniper evident but not dominant.
