In a professional environment you shouldn't be using a sledge hammer unless you're breaking rocks of course. It would have been far harder or impossible to swing a lighter sledge with enough force to do what this can. The head will not become loose, as steel bars are locked with a steel plate on top of the hammerhead, ensuring the head will never get dislodged. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I'm actually shocked there hasn't been a post yet from someone claiming to have easily used a 20 pounder when they were in kindergarten or some such nonsense.

I am looking to replace a couple of China no name sledge hammers that I sent off to the auction the other day. I would definitely not recommend it for anyone who is not either above average strength or using an assist. It features an unbreakable steel-core handle technology to prevent breaking during overstrikes, making it ideal for demolition applications. I think a lot depends on the person swinging the hammer as well as how many times you would be swinging it. In fact, I don't see any real evidence of the head deforming either (the head on my 16 pound hammer has noticeably deformed over time). I laughed and handed it to my wife (who is much smaller) and she could barely lift it over her shoulder. As a heavy equipment mech and not an animal, 6'2",225, 28 y/o, a 16lb is about max for using alot for me, a friend whose a bit smaller, asked his boss for a 20lb, swung that a few times doing jobs where the 16 wouldn't work, not a fan of it at all.

I think my old ones were a tad light, but I did not weigh them and there was nothing on the head to show weight. Groz Indestructible Handle Hammers meet ANSI specifications "Hand Tools - Heavy Striking Tools Safety Requirements", as well as BS 876 specifications for material, hardness and performance.

We will collect the Import Fees Deposit at the time of your purchase and use it to cover applicable taxes and duties on import. Also I find that using sledge hammers with a fiber glass handle to be better in general then wooden handles. This year I'm clearing an area for a shed, and decided to get something a little bigger to (hopefully) break things up a little faster and with fewer hits. If you are a stronger person, someone who does manual labor a lot, and you find that you are breaking stone/concrete or driving post in to permafrost ground, in an area where accuracy is not important, then you might want to increase the weight to get done quicker. I know there's an urge to feel macho and swing a giant hammer, but you'll get more done with one that's easier to swing.
