I enjoyed all the court intrigue; Fenella being the sweet person is also being a catalyst (marching into court to demand Oswald be her champion) to motivate the other ladies…shy Mathilde, old maid Orla, and surly Lady Bess, to be bold and go after the men they wanted! Icing on the cake…when Fen has babes of her own with Oswald…another slap in the face to that scumbag weasel Ambrose. Because Fenella once said she likes them,” said Oswald. “In a purely throw-away conversation. But for some reason, every word she speaks is seared on my brain.” Second read: 4.5 stars. I don’t know what I was thinking the first time around, but I definitely appreciated this book more the second time. I absolutely LOVE the hero, he’s fantastic. All his scheming and plotting made him all the more delicious. Also, the sex scenes were 🔥🔥🔥.Seeing Mason and Linette, the MCs from the previous book, was lovely. I enjoyed their story immensely and seeing its continuation with their adorable children was an unexpected pleasure. Linnet bit her lip. “It will be a lot of work for you Oswald, but perhaps with someone at your side...” She hesitated and looked at her husband expectantly. Oswald smiled as he watched her fussily arrange Archie on her lap. “No doubt,” he agreed. He had a suspicion it was not Cuthbert she wanted to discuss with him.
